Chinese Lunar New Year holiday is coming in Feb. There weeks, all workshops of GN Solids Control are works with more shifts in order to finish all orders before the big holiday. A full package drilling mud solids control system will be ready soon and dispatch to sea port next week to catch the vessel.

The full package solid control system is designed and made for a European client. The client cooperated with GN Solids Control for many years. It is not the 1rst mud system the clients bought from GN. They have many similar size drilling mud system from GN Solids Control.

Below is the major equipment list of the full package drilling mud solids control system:

1) Shale Shaker. It is the 1rst stage solids control equipment for drilling mud system, and it is the major separation equipment in a drilling mud treatment system. There are 2 sets linear motion shale shaker in the mud system. Some clients will order an extra shale shaker as backup. The shale shaker model is GNZS594F. It is a 4-panel shale shaker. And it is the most hot sale shaker model from GN Solids Control.

2) Mud cleaner. It is normally 1 mud cleaner in a full package mud cleaning system. And in some jobsite, clients will use more shale shaker to replace mud cleaner. It is also called as 3-in-1 cleaner. It is the combination of a shale shaker, desander separator and desilter separator.

3) Lower/middle speed Decanter centrifuge. The model is GNLW452D. It is a 18inch bowl size middle speed centrifuge which is used for barite recovering.

4) High speed decanter centrifuge. After low speed centrifuge, there is a high speed centrifuge GNLW363C in the system for fine solids separation. As after some circulations, there will be more and more ultra fine solids inside the drilling mud, the drilling mud is weighted. High speed centrifuge will be used in this condition to reduce the mud weight.

5) Centrifugal pump. There are 6 centrifugal pumps inside the system for different functions: a desander feed pump, a desilter feed pump, 2 mixing pumps, and supercharging pump for drilling rig mud pump.

GN Solids Control makes various separation productions for the treatment of oil contaminated waste during drilling, like oil sludge and contaminated soil. GN Solids Control is also capable to make various sizes of dewatering centrifuges for oily sludge and industry waste water treatment.

A dewatering centrifuge unit will be delivered to a Southeast Asia client for Municipal Sewage treatment. The dewatering centrifuge package is including a high speed decanter centrifuge unit and a VFD control panel for the centrifuge.

The dewatering decanter centrifuge is with big bowl and high speed, high G force. It is special designed to suit for municipal sewage treatment. The bowl diamater of the dewatering centrifuge is up to 450mm (18 inch), and the bowl length is up to 1890mm (74.5 inch). The bowl length and bowl diameter ratio is up to 4.2 to clarify the liquid and further drying the solids phase. The max. Speed of the 18 inch dewatering centrifuge is 4000RPM, which can generate max. G force 4032G.

The 18 inch dewatering centrifuge is a dual motor unit. According to different material situation, clients have 2 options on the motors power. In condition of heavy mud and high viscosity, 45kw main motor drive and 11kw back motor drive will be used. But if the slurry is low viscosity and light weight, less solids content, clients can choose 37kw main motor drive and 7.5kw back motor drive. It saves cost and also save power. Like for municipal sewage treatment, mostly the liquid is not weight, and less viscosity, 37kw main motor drive and 7.5kw back motor drive can be used.

For the same bowl size 18inch decanter centrifuge, GN Solids Control has different design to cater for the slurry situation. Before order, GN centrifuge engineer will communicate more about the raw material situation and clients’ request in order to offer the clients a most suitable proposal.

VFD Control Panel of the decanter centrifuge is made from stainless steel for excellent corrosion resistance and long service life. The VFD control panel is with PLC and touch screen for smart control.

A customized drilling mud processing system is is ready for shipment at GN Solids Control Beijing factory. It mud cleaning system is composted of a mud cleaner, a mixing hopper, and a centrifugal pump for mud mixing and transfer.
The drilling mud cleaning and mixing system is designed and made by client’s request to suit his drilling mud situation. Normally, mud cleaner is equipped after a pre-seperation shale shaker. But in this mud cleaning system, the first separation equipment is mud cleaner.

The reason why the client do not use shale shaker is that, they said the solids content in the mud is not much high. And mostly are fine solids. In this case, the drilling mud can be separated by mud cleaner directly. It is to save cost. As once the shale shaker is running, clients need to replace shaker screen periodically. It is a continue cost for operation. While delete the shale shaker, the system can meet client’s request. It can save the cost of shale shaker, and furthermore, the can reduce wearing spare parts shaker screen cost.

But if the solids content is high, or the particle side is big, which is over the hydracyclone separation point and its mud handing capacity, it is better to use a shale shaker before the mud cleaner. At one hand, the shale shaker can reduce the flow rate which feed to the mud cleaner. At another hand, after the shale shaker separation, the solids content will be reduced, and the big size particle are total removed based on the shaker screen API size and cut point. It can increase the hydraucyclone separation efficient, and also to avoid the fast wear out the hydraucyclones. 10 inch desander cone and 4 inch desilter cone are the most popular cyclone sizes used for drilling fluids separation system. Operator can choose the to use only desander cone or desilter cone, or both based on the mud condition and their budgetary. Desander and / or desilter cone quality depends on the handling capacity of the whole system.

Feeding pump for mud cleaner is centrifugal pump. The centrifugal feed pump is located on tank slope for compact design and for maximize the total tank usable volume.

After the mud recycling and mixing system, a drilling mud decanter centrifuge is used for fine solids separation. As there will be more and more fine and ultra fine solids after some circulation of the system. Decanter centrifuge will be used to reduce the mud weight.

The TBM construction and Pipe Jacking construction drilling will generate a lot of waste water slurry which contains big percentage of sand and stones. In order to accordance with environment protection regulations and save water, project operators have to separate the TBM drilling mud, to reduce the waste and reuse the water.

A set of GNMS-1000D mud recycling system and a 18 inch decanter centrifuge is ready for shipment. They will be shipped for a trenchless drilling project. GNMS-1000D is a Mud Treating & Recycling System. The mud cleaning system is designed and manufactured according to the needs and requirements of customers. GNMS-1000D mud recycling system is specially designed to treat the drilling mud in mining industry, piling machine, HDD (horizontal directional drilling) and other trenchless drilling activities. The treatment capacity of GNMS-1000D mud recyling system and cleaning system is up to 240m³/h.

1000GPM Mud Recycling Unit

A double deck shale shaker is used in the GNMS-1000D mud cleaning system. There are 2 sets of 10 inch desander cone assembly on top of the double deck shale shaker to use as a mud cleaner. The advantages of a single deck mud cleaner is that, it has the function of both shale shaker and cleaner and the footprint if small while with the compact design. The dirty mud will be fed to bottom shaker deck, which is mounted coarse shaker screen. The centrifugal pump is located on the tank slope to feed for the desander cleaner. GNLW452 is an economic standard decanter centrifuge. It is a 18 inch big bowl centrifuge. But the bowl diameter and bowl length ration is only 2. And the max. Bowl speed of the GNLW452 centrifuge is 2200RPM. It is a single motor decanter centrifuge with fixed speed control. VFD control is available if requested by clients. The centrifuge is widely used for trenchless drilling mud treatment, and oil & gas drilling mud barite recovery.

500GPM and 1000GPM are the most popular size drilling rig mud recycling system for Horizontal directional drilling, water well drilling, Coal bed methane drilling, and other trenchless drilling rigs.
500GPM mud recycling system is mostly a compact 1-tank system complete with separation equipment and mixing unit for compact design and easy movement.

Regarding 1000GPM mud system system, clients can choose 1-tank system or 2-tank system. 3-shaker mud recycling system and 4-shaker mud recycling system are the most popular proposal. 3-shake mud recycling system means 2 shale shakers plus a mud cleaner (3-1 mud cleaner, desander mud cleaner, or desilter mud cleaner).

Equipment list for 1000GPM mud system is normally as below:

1) At least 2 sets shale shaker. 4-panel or 3-panel shale shaker model are both fine. Single shale shaker model is min. 500GPM capacity. So for 2 shale shakers the handling capacity can reach to 1000GPM minimize.

2) 1 set of mud cleaner c/w shale shaker, desander and desilter, mud capacity is at least 1000GPM. It is the full functional and with compact design. As a 3-1 mud cleaner can save footprint. If clients want to reach a better separation performance, they can also choose a separate desander mud cleaner, or a desilter mud cleaner. Regarding the desander mud cleaner and desilter mud cleaner, clients can choose to equip with the same under flow shale shaker as the first stage shale shaker, or a mini size shale shaker with 2 screen panels. Clients can also choose a small desander or desander without shale shaker.

3) Feeding centrifugal pump for mud cleaner is 45kw or 55kw. The feeding pump can be located on tank skid or tank slope.

4) Mixing unit is C/W 6 inch mixing hopper. Mixing pump can be 45kw or 55kw. It is better to be the same model with mud cleaner feeding pump.

For 3-shaker system, all separation equipment and the mixing unit can be located on the same mud tank for company design. But if it is 4-shaker mud system, the first tank is recycling tank with separation equipment, the next tank is mixing tank.

As Chinese new year holiday is coming in Feb. 2021. Only 1 month left. New Year is the most important big day for all Chinese people. It will cause at least 3 weeks delay on manufacturing schedule. Everything will be very slow during the whole Feb. Although it is deeper winter in China, the weather is frozen and cold. In order to not delay clients projects and delivery orders on time, all workers of GN Solids Control are working hard. Below are some of the orders will be delivered this week.

1) Mud recovery system GNMS-1000D and GNMS-500D. GNMS-1000D is a desanding plant C/W double deck shale shaker and 2×10inchdesander cleaner with capacity 1000GPM for piling and micro tunneling projects. The GNMS-500D is a desanding plant C/W double deck shale shaker and 1×10inch desander cleaner with capacity 500GPM for piling and micro tunneling projects. The layout of GNMS-1000D and GNMS-500D are very similar.

2) Mud dewatering centrifuge GNLW554E-VFD. It is a 18 inch big bowl decanter centrifuge mainly used for dewatering treatment and oil slurry. Clients can choose VFD control or FHD control for the centrifuge. It is normally used together with chemical dosing unit.

3) Slurry mixing and storage tank system with a separate Jet mud mixing device. It is a 3-tank mud mixing and storage system. The mixing is ready for shipment. The mixing unit is complete with a separate jet mud mixing unit. Each tank is equipped with 2 mud agitator. All mud tanks are connected for mud transfer between each other. Each mud tank is the same length and width 20ft ISO sea freight containers. And each corner of the tank are equipped with container locking device.

Clients can also choose 40ft container size mud tank. It is easy for inland shipment. For international sea freight, GN Solids Control will make a smaller size mud tank for loading into containers.

3. GNSB Series Centrifugal pump can be used as mixing pump of jet mud mixer and mixing unit. While add a T-pipe at the outlet of the mixing pump, the same pump can also be used as transfer pump.

4. GNSB Series Centrifugal pump can be used as transfer pump to transfer drilling mud or other slurries from one tank to another, or from one location to another.

5. GNSB Series Centrifugal pump can be used as suction or supercharging pump for drilling rig mud pump.

Otherwise, if the mud flow is big, the shale shaker will overflow. And the hydrocyclone separation performance is not good in condition the feed flow is too small. The client need to increase shale shaker capacity, or decrease pump and mud cleaner capacity to suit for the mud pump capacity.

Every jobsite is different. Every client has his preferable. In order to offer a suitable mud system design to suit for the job site situation, as well as client’s special requirements. Below are some questions to let GN Solids Control knows more about clients request.

1) what is the rig horse power of the system for, or what is the mud pump horse power or capacity? The whole mud system handle capacity should suit to the mud pump capacity.
2) What is the total tank volume the client prefer?
3) How many tanks the client prefer?
4) What is the max. Tank size (L × W × H) the client can accept to suit for their local shipping regulations?
5) What processing equipment they prefer to equip inside the system? Shale shaker, mud cleaner, desilter, desilter, mud cleaner, vacuum degasser, decanter centrifuge, etc..Which processing equipment they want?
6) What is the Voltage and hz for the mud system?
7) What is the explosion proof standard, CNEX, ATEX, or international IECEx standard?
8) Additional requirement and any special requirements if there, like do they want trip tank, pill tank, water tank, etc…

The decanter centrifuge mostly supplied for the dewatering treatment process is GNLW224EP-VFD. The bowl of the centrifuge is 9 inch (220mm). As the compact design, GN Solids Control 9 inch decanter centrifuge is popular for client to use it in small capacity or limited space application for solids and liquid separation.

GN Solids Control 9 inch decanter centrifuge is also considered to be the ideal choice for experiment testing with decanter centrifuge. GN Solids Control 9 inch decanter centrifuge is optional in three types includes: fixed gear box drive, fully hydraulic drive, and variable frequency drive. All wetted area of GN decanter centrifuges are either Duplex or SS materials, all wear area’s are protected with replaceable Tungsten inserts.
