Vacuum pump is suitable for this situation. A cuttings transfer station is used before vacuum pump after solids control equipment to collect drill cuttings. And then through hoses, vacuum pump can suck drilling cuttings from the cutting transfer station, and discharge to outside cutting storage tanks or places which can be max. 1000m away from the solids control equipment.

GN vacuum pump can also be used to suck and transfer rocks, sands, powder material directly. We can see, if the material is flowable, GN vacuum pump can be used.

As GN solids and sludge vacuum transfer pump is 100% driven by air. There is no electrical components. But the vacuum pump can suck material max. up to 50, and discharge material up to 1000m. In this case, in order to support the powerful suction and discharging capability, a big air supply is necessary to support stable running of the pump.

Comments and questions from GN Solids Control: Why you ask for 5.5m auger? Do you mean transfer length is 5.5m? GN Solids Control standard screw conveyor is combined with standard sections with 12ft in length. Job site operators can remove a mid. Section to shorten the transfer length, or add a mid. Section to extend the transfer length. For standard auger models, the available length is 12ft, 24ft, 36ft and 48ft. And the auger dia. varies from 10 inch to 18 inch.

Client’s reply and comments: I want 5.5 m auger. In this case, I can put the auger into 20ft container. By the way, I will need a 20ft containerized dewatering unit. Can I put the 5.5m auger into the 20ft dewatering unit container?

Safe protection on screw conveyor auger

This week, a client contacted a sales manager of GN Solids Control; he said he wanted to order some Augers. He asked GN Solids Control sales manager to inquire what augers can GN Solids Control make, and he also want to know what the safety protections on GN Solids Control auger are equipped, so someone will not be hurt while using it.

GN Solids Control recommends the client some of the same safe standard for a major Oil copany in Middle East. Below are some of the HSE standards suggested to the client:

1) GN Solids Control can equip grab wire along the auger length: operator can stop the auger at any place along the auger. And in case the auger cover is opened, or not closed well, the auger will be stopped automatically. In this case, operators will not be hurt.

2) Control panel can be equipped with E-stop and with control for the grab wire, to switch off power supply to the auger automatically in case the auger covers are opened or removed or not closed or not appropriately fixed.

3) Another optional safety protection is Audio and / or visual alarm system on auger control panel: the voice and light alarm will automatically switch on once the power is switched on, and the Audio and / or visual alarm system keep for some seconds before the auger start rotating. The alarm gives time for the nearby operator to know the screw conveyor will start rotating, and reminder them to keep away.

Auger is also known as screw conveyor. It is widely used at oil and gas drilling flied. Screw conveyor can be located under shale shaker, mud cleaner, desander, desilter, or decanter centrifuge, to collect drilling cuttings discharged from solids control equipment, and transfer the drill cuttings to drilling waste management equipment, like high G force shale shaker and vertical cuttings dryer.

18 inch big bowl centrifuge for dewatering and big capacity separation

18 inch is a popular big bowl decanter centrifuge which is widely used for drilling mud treatment and drilling waste management. But for different applications, clients’ demands for the output liquid and output solids / soil varies greatly.
For example, when the 18 inch decanter centrifuge is used as solids control equipment in drilling fluids processing system for barite recovery, or for mud weight reducing, big treating capacity is demanded.

The jobsites want to get a big drilling fluids input and output, When the jobsites want to reduce mud weight to a qualified PPG, they want to reach a bigger mud input into the decanter centrifuge, and the output liquid can be reduced the qualified mud weight. But they do not have specified demands for the solids outputs from the decanter centrifuge. For this applications, a bigger conveyor speed (differential speed) can push the input drilling fluids go through centrifuge internal screw propeller faster.

If the mud can pass through the centrifuge internal bowl faster, the total mud volume going through the centrifuge in a certain time is bigger, it means bigger capacity. Furthermore, specified liquid dam boards are used in this application, the purpose is to enlarge the solids output volume. During this operation, the operators can get bigger handling capacity.

But if the big bowl decanter centrifuge is used for dewatering, or used for water / liquid purification, a relative lower conveyor speed (differential speed) and high bowl speed should be used. The purpose is to extend the rotation time of the materials inside the centrifuge bowl, and in order to extend the separation time of the material along the bowl screw. After centrifugal force separation, the purified liquid (maybe water with ultra-fine soil) is discharged from the liquid output port. Soil will settle down along the bowl screw and then been throw out from the solids output port.

Working principle of GN Solids Control 3 phase decanter centrifuge

GN Solids Control 3 phase decanter centrifuge is mainly designed and made for liquid, liquid and solids separation. GN Solids Control 3 phase decanter centrifuge can also be applied to two immiscible liquids with different specific gravities. When the solids and liquid mixture (raw material before separation) rotates into the high-speed rotating bowl internal the 3 phase decanter centrifuge, the solids and liquid mixture rotates synchronously with the drum. As the reason of the different specific gravity, the centrifugal force of the solids and different liquid is different.

The solid particles which with the larger specific gravity are subjected to the greatest centrifugal force, followed by the heavy phase liquid (such as water) and the light phase liquid (such as oil). So the centrifugal force is becoming less from outside to inside according to the magnitude of centrifugal force. A concentric solid layer and two liquid layers are formed.

The Solids phase inside the mixture will be pushed out by the conveyor impeller of the centrifuge bowl, and liquids are removed from their respective nozzles depending on different gravities. As the reason, GN Solids Control three-phase decanter centrifuge can not only separate the solid from the solids and liquid mixture, but also separate the two-phase liquid with different specific gravity in the liquid and liquid mixture. In this case, Solid / liquid / liquid separation can be achieved.

API RP 13C shale shaker screen for oilfield shale shaker

Shale shaker screen is the most important and necessary wearing spare parts for oilfield shale shaker and mud cleaner. The function of a shale shaker screen is to remove the particles bigger than the screen opening, and recover the usable drilling fluids which will go through the screen openings and get back to the drilling mud recycling system.

There are many brands shale shaker and mud cleaner, and every brand has his own design and own sizes shale shaker screens. In order to control the mud weight accurately, how do the mud engineers choose the right screens openings from different shale shaker and shale shaker screen suppliers?

In order to solve the problem, a general standard is necessary for design shale shaker screens. API RP 13C is an international popular standard to define the shale shaker screen specifications. A authorized lab will test a shaker screen by using a specific test procedure (as described in API RP 13C), the lab test will define a series of specifications of the screen, like D100 cut point, screen conductance, non-blanked area. After these specifications are confirmed, the API Screen Number is determined. It ensures that, all Shale shaker screens confirmed to API RP13C standard, if the API No. is the same, the screen cut point will be the same. Same model screens from different screen suppliers if with the same API NO., the screens are interchangeable.

Below definitions are some important parameters of shale shaker screens to help you know more about API screens:
API screen NO.: After testing a screen by using a specific test procedure (as described in API RP 13C), the API screen no. is determined.
Mesh: it relates to a piece of screen wirecloth, is a measure of the number of holes in a linear inch (such as 100 mesh) or in a linear inch in each direction (such as 100 x 60 mesh).
D100 Cut Point: The D100 cut point of a screen is the largest particle size which will pass through the screen opening. D100 means 100% percent separation.
Screen Conductance: It measured in kilodarcies per millimeter (kD/mm), defines a Newtonian fluid’s ability to flow through a unit area of screen in a laminar flow regime under prescribed test conditions. All other factors being equal the screen with the higher conductance number should process more flow.
Non-Blanked Area: The non-blanked area of a screen describes the net unblocked area in square feet (ft²) or square meters (m²) available to permit the passage of fluid.

Oilfield FHD Decanter Centrifuge working principle

GNLW363 FHD centrifuge is designed expressly for removing low specific gravity solids from slurries and drilling fluids. In one type of processing, solids are removed and the liquid is returned for recirculation. Alternatively, solids are returned to the active system and the liquid is discarded.

GNLW363C-FHD decanter centrifuge is fully hydraulic drive. The bowl speed and conveyer speed is adjustable within the permitted range. It can achieve independent, step-less and large-range speed regulation for the bowl and conveying. The bowl speed and conveyer speed during working is showing on the screen.

The mechanical operation principle of a full hydraulic  drive decanter centrifuge is as below:

  1. The centrifuge employs centrifugal force produced by the high-speed rotation of a cylindrical bowl to separate solids from slurry. Centrifuge performance is based on three variable factors:
  2. Force exerted on the fluid – Centrifugal force pulling fluid against the outside wall of the Centrifuge
  3. Retention time in the centrifuge – The longer the slurry remains in the centrifuge the smaller the particle that can be separated
  4. Differential speed of conveyor – The faster the conveyor rotates the wetter the solids

All three factors may be manipulated in GNLW363C-FHD centrifuge to alter the liquid and solids discharge. The centrifugal force is adjusted by varying the bowl RPM. Retention time is controlled by adjusting the liquid discharge ports on the liquid bowl head to vary the pond depth (depth of liquid remaining in the bowl), and the feed rate to the unit (the lower the feed rate, the higher the retention time).

The conveyor operates at a slightly lower speed than the bowl. The conveying speed is the difference between the bowl and conveyor speeds. During decanter centrifuge operation, the CONVEYOR SPEED indicator on the hydraulic control panel displays the number of conveyor RPM less than the current bowl RPM. For example, a displayed conveyor speed of 30 with a bowl speed of 2000 RPM translates into a conveyor speed of 1970 RPM.
Other than pond depth, all other parameters may be changed quickly and easily to adjust the equipment for optimum efficiency in response to varying the feed conditions. For best performance, the slurry should be screened to 74 microns in vibrating screening machines before passing to the centrifuge for processing.

It is a construction field drilling machine used to excavate tunnels and micro-tunneling with a circular cross section through a variety of soil and rock strata.
