9 inch is the smallest size model in GN’s decanter centrifuge production line. GNLW223 is the typical model number of this size, now both the fixed speed and VFD model available. At this time, all GN’s decanter centrifuge is electric driven; however, GN is researching the FHD model that is more preferred as less energy consumption.

GNLW223 Decanter Centrifuge – 9 inch

GN 9 inch decanter centrifuge unit can run normally at 3800 RPM for long time working condition, while the designed maximum RPM is 5000. GN’s dynamical balance testing instrument can test the decanter centrifuge at actual working speed, even the maximum designed RPM. This ensures the stable working performance.
GNLW223 series decanter centrifuge is mainly used for small capacity solids removal project. Diamond core drilling is a typical industry that will use this type decanter centrifuge. With a high working speed, the centrifuge unit would remove the ultra fine solids like less than 5 microns from the drilling fluids. Ceramic tiles are inlayed for protection of the screw propeller, which extends the working lifetime. For the customer who prefers the FHD model, GN also provides only the mechanical part like bowl assembly and bearing seat, customer could equip the hydraulic driving system and electric control system locally.
Some mining operators would ask put a shaker unit before the decanter centrifuge, thus the coarse solids could be removed firstly. Then the slurry with fine solids will be fed into the centrifuge. The function of the shaker is to remove most of the large size solids, which will greatly reduce the working load of the centrifuge. It is also a protection on the centrifuge unit.
Now GN already developed the compact solids removal unit including mini shaker and 9 inch decanter centrifuge. This system also has mixing system for adding bentonite into the fluids. Its compact structure make it could be helicoptered to lift to a remote area for working.

Diamond core drilling is a type of drilling used to get the stratum samples so that the geological experts could analyze what under the ground, and if there is mineral reserve, how deep need to be drilled for exploitation. Diamond core drilling always uses tube type drill bit for getting a cylinder earth sample. The drill hole is not too big to use plenty drilling mud. However, on consideration of environmental protection, the recycling of the
drilling mud is firmly requested, which is also a method of cost saving.

The drilling mud recycling system of the diamond core drilling can also be called as solids removal unit. As the drilling site of diamond core drilling is always space limited. The solids removal unit needs to be as compact as better. GN has 2 equipments that are made especially for diamond core drilling: Mini shaker and Mini centrifuge unit.
GN Mini shaker is 2-panel screen design with vibration G force up to 7.1 that is used to remove the coarse solids in the drilling fluids. Heat treatment on whole shake deck greatly strengthens the deck to ensure a better performance on drying the solids.
GN Mini centrifuge is 2-phase type for solids and liquid separation, 9 inch bowl diameter, with speed up to 3800RPM, the centrifuge could effectively remove the solids with size of 2 microns in the mud. Stainless steel material of the bowl guarantees the good working for all kinds of chemical liquid. The protection of tungsten carbide tiles on screw and ceramic casing at solids discharge port significantly extends the life time of the centrifuge.

Shale shaker model of GNZS752 with 2 panel screens, which is used as the first stage solids removing unit to separate out the larger size solids in the drilling mud.

High speed decanter centrifuge GNLW223 which is also the key equipment in this solids removal unit. It could run at a typical speed of 3800 RMP that ensure a good performance for dewatering. The semi-dry solids discharged out from the centrifuge unit could be transported easily.

Considering the requirement of the small footprint, this solids removing unit is designed structure compact and the mud tank only has 2 compartments separately to be used for sand settling and mud mixing. The centrifuge pump used in this system could both transfer the mud to centrifuge and mud mixing. This dual function centrifugal pump saves great power cost and reduces the system size.

For the power supply, GN could also provide a diesel generator as an option.

This article is to give a brief introduction on how to choose GN’s decanter centrifuge according to different purpose. GN now has models of GNLW363 fixed speed and VFD, GNLW452 fixed speed and GNLW453 VFD, GNLW553 VFD.

1. For barite recovery, GN always recommends the model of GNLW452 with RPM 1800, designed maximum RPM is 2200. This is the lowest RPM model GN hold. GN also has the model GNLW363 with RPM 2200.
2. For general drilling mud solids control, the model of GNLW452 is proposed for high gravity solids separation. The customer could also choose the model of GNLW 363 with RPM 2700. If the customer has a cuttings dryer in the system, then GN firmly propose latter model.
3. For solids separation application to the low solids content drilling mud or the low gravity solids. It always is difficult to separate the solids thoroughly, then a centrifuge with high centrifugal force would be need. High speed centrifuge always has large centrifugal force could perform well for this application. GN always recommends the model of GNLW363 with RPM 3200.
4. For some of the mud recycling system, the operators always choose 2-centrifuge system for solids separation. One middle speed and then one high speed. For this application, GN’s solution is 1 unit GNLW452 with speed of 1800 and 1 unit GNLW363 with RPM 2700 or 3200.
5. GN could also provide centrifuge unit with several belt pulleys for different speed, the customer could adjust the RPM by changing the belt pulley.
The best solution for all this different working condition is to get a VFD model with different RPM in same unit centrifuge. GN could provide VFD model for 14”, 18” and 22” bowl with different capacity.

The above mentioned large size decanter centrifuge are all used for oil gas industry. GN also has a model of GNLW223 with capacity 6 cubic meters which is a very popular model for core drilling. This model is both fixed speed and variable speed available.

Both of the two models are driven by one unit electric motor. Regarding the motor and control panel, GN could also provide IEC explosion proof standard which could be used in hazardous area. Some customer may prefer the fully hydraulic drive model, at this time, GN hydraulic driven centrifuge for GNLW223 still under research process. But GN could provide the Decanter Centrifuge without motor and control panel, the customer could get the hydraulic driven unit locally and assembly together with the mechanical part. The unit which was sent to Canada is like that.
GNLW223 series decanter centrifuge has a normal treating capacity of 6 cubic meters per hour. The designed maximum rotating speed is 4900RPM. If variable frequency drive, the speed would be 0~3800RPM. Under general condition, the solid particles size in diamond drilling is very fine, however, sometimes, there would be large size drilling cuttings. Thus, one unit shale shaker maybe needed as first stage cleaning equipment to remove the large size solid particles. GN has a mini model shale shaker GNZS752 is especially for this job.
The mud system for diamond drilling is very simple; always it is consisting of mini shale shaker, GNLW223 decanter centrifuge, and mud tank and mud agitators.
