18 inch drilling mud decanter centrifuge for offshore drilling platform

GN Solids Control makes drilling mud treatment equipment for onshore and offshore applications. The material standard and the design for onshore and offshore application are different. This week, GN Solids Control just finished the fabrication and commissioning of a set of solids control equipment for offshore projects.

Below is the major different of on shore decanter centrifuge and offshore decanter centrifuges.
Firstly, the control panel Enclosure material for onshore rig and offshore rigs are different. Casting aluminum Enclosure is the most popular. But the material is not durable than while used on the sea. It must be stainless steel enclosed for more durable.

Secondly, the paining standard for onshore and offshore equipment is different. Powder painting is good enough for on shore equipment. It looks nice. But the marine situation is very much abrasive. Powder painting is not durable enough. The normal painting is with more thickness. It last longer time. And ever for the normal painting, it is corroded more fast than on shore, and need to repair more frequently.

Thirdly, the material of sealing rubber parts for onshore and offshore are different. The Nitrile rubber material is widely used and good for on shore. It is durable for oily material. But Nitrile rubber is not durable for offshore. It must be Fluororubber material, which is more durable under marine and chemical corrosion situation.

Fourthly, the offshore equipment has high request on the lifting standard. GN Solids Control makes additional lifting frame and crash frame for equipment used on offshore platforms. And mostly, the offshore project will request special lifting certificate to ensure the equipment complied with offshore job site.

And plus, there are various standard explosion proof, China National explosion proof, EU standard ATEX explosion proof, International standard IECEX explosion proof. And for offshore applications, in many cased, the end user will request the marine explosion proof.

The selection of Drilling mud solids control equipment

The traditional drilling mud solids control equipment includes shale shaker, mud cleaner, desander, desilter, decanter centrifuge, etc…Each of them has a certain cut point (separation point). They are selected and used based on their cut point.

Solids control shale shaker is the basic and pre-separation equipment of drilling mud system. Its cut point is up to the screen opening utilizing on the unit. In order to make sure the accurate and correct separation result, API RP13 complied screens are requested to used in the drilling mud shale shaker. It means all API RP13C screens with the same API size from various screens manufacturers are all interchangeable. They can all reach the same cut point.

But for various screen suppliers, their screen quality and the mud flow rate varies based on the materials and the designations. There are API screens with sizes from PI 10 to API 325, the cut points is from 2mm to 40 microns. The finer the API size, the less the mud flow rate.

Screen shale shaker is the D100 separator. It means 100% particles above the cut point will be removed.

10 inch hydro cyclones are the post popular used in oil and gas drilling for desander. It is also called as desander cone. Its separation point is 47 microns. In some cases, 12 inch hydro cyclones are used for bigger mud handling capacity.

4 inch hydro cyclones are the post popular used in oil and gas drilling for desilter. It is also called as desilter cone. Its separation point is 25 microns. In some cases, 5 inch hydro cyclones are used for bigger mud handling capacity. The smaller size 2inch desilter cone were used in some special drilling waste management situations.

Hydro cyclones are not D100 separator. Hence the underflow shale shaker is suggested to used under the hydro cyclones to further clean the solids discharge from them.

Decanter centrifuge is a high standard and precision separator. Its cut point can up to 2 ~ 5 microns. It is used to reduce the mud weight.

2 phase and 3 phase centrifuge separation for oil sludge separation system

GN Solids Control offers professional proposal for various kinds of oily sludge separation application in oil field. The oil sludge includes oily waste from tank cleaning, from drilling mud system, from waste pits, from crude oil storage tank, from refinery, and so on.

Oil sludge is a mixture waste which is consisting of oil, water and solids, soil. The treatment of the oil sludge wastes is normally to recover as much oil and water for reuse, and reduce the solids waste. And some times, it will request 3 phase separation of oil, waste and soil. Also it is an ideal solution to for the solids disposal. It is also good for environment protection. If more oil and water recovered, more energy and resource could be saved. And the waste material is reduced.

There are generally 3 solutions of oil sludge treatment, in order of separation effect and the investment, the 3 solutions is as following:

Option 1 Shaker modular + 2 phase centrifuge centrifuge modular: If the customer only requires solid-liquid separation, and does not require oil-water separation, use shale shaker separation with 2-phase centrifuge centrifuge.

Option 2 Shaker modular + 3 phase centrifuge centrifuge modular:
If the customer requires three-phase separation of oil, water, and slag, but the requirements for three-phase separation are not high, use shale shaker separation, and 3-phase decanter centrifuge.

Option 3 Shaker modular + 3 phase centrifuge centrifuge modular + 3 phase disc centrifuge modular:
If the customer requires three-phase separation of oil, water, and slag, and the requirements for three-phase separation are relatively high. Use shale shake separation, 2-phase decanter centrifuge, and three-phase disc centrifuge. The advantage of a three-phase disc centrifuge is that it can get clean water and oil, but the disadvantage is that it is easy to block.And the cost is higher.

Drilling waste management transfer pump and screw conveyor

Slurry pump can transfer bigger size solids and bigger percentage slurry compared with centrifugal pump. GN Solids Control makes horizontal slurry pump and vertical slurry pump.
