Screw protection of drilling decanter centrifuge

There are mainly 3 types protection for solids separation centrifuge propeller screw. Many customer do not know the difference of them and wondering about how to choose the suitable one for its centrifuge. Below is the elaborate for the difference of the 3 screw protection design.

1) Tungsten carbide hard surface for screw protection: It is the most common type in China. Nearly all other companies make this type, besides GN Solids Control Co., Ltd. It is easy for process, and cost lower. But the height of the welded Tungsten carbide on the screw surface is very thin, only around 1mm. This type of centrifuge is cheaper, but not good at anti-friction and anti-abrasive. If the solids content high, after half year or 1 year, not more than 2-year time, the Tungsten carbide hard surface will be worn out and the centrifuge will lose balance. The users need to open the centrifuge bowl, welding again to maintenance it and make dynamic balance again. It requests the operator with a higher specialty, and more cost on maintenance.

2) Interchangeable ceramic tiles for screw protection: It is interchangeable small pieces, with exact same weight and dimension. It is strong. Shaker screen sealing rubber

There are rubber ring for sealing on most shaker screen model, like Derrick503 screen, Derrick48-30 shaker screen, Brandt Cobra shaker screen, GN Solids shaker screen, and many other shaker screen models.

Functions of the sealing rubber:

1) Sealing between screens and shaker deck. To avoid un-treated dirty mud seep into mud system, and damage the mud system machine.

2) To reduce the bad effect of vibrating to the shaker screen. Protect screen from strong vibrating.

What will happen if the sealing rubber not workable

1) The screen frame will touch directly with shaker deck, and damaged within a very short time

2) The worst result is, if the screen rubber damaged, the dirty mud from well head will flow into mud system directly with much solids. It requires a higher capacity on downstream equipment processing, or even make damage to the downstream machine, like desander, desilter or vacuum degasser

If the material of the sealing rubber not strong enough and not very good at anti-corrosive, the high temperature drilling mud with heavy sand will damage the rubber very soon. The shaker screen will be broken very soon. Dirty mud flow into the mud system from the shale shaker deck with heavy sand and solids. It will have bad effect to the mud system.

Principle of decanter centrifuge separation

Different solid or particle have different density and flow speed, Drilling Mud decanter centrifuge adopts centrifugal force to separate solids / particles out of drilling fluid. Drilling mud decanter centrifuge also can separate particles with different size and density.

Drilling fluids enter the bowl through the inlet tube. It is accelerated smoothly by an inlet rotor. The generated drilling mud decanter centrifuge forces make the solids collected on the wall of the bowl. The conveyor and the bowl rotate in the same direction, but at different speeds, which caused a differential speed, and enable the solids moving towards the conical end of the bowl for removal.
