1000GPM Mud Recycling Unit

A double deck shale shaker is used in the GNMS-1000D mud cleaning system. There are 2 sets of 10 inch desander cone assembly on top of the double deck shale shaker to use as a mud cleaner. The advantages of a single deck mud cleaner is that, it has the function of both shale shaker and cleaner and the footprint if small while with the compact design. The dirty mud will be fed to bottom shaker deck, which is mounted coarse shaker screen. The centrifugal pump is located on the tank slope to feed for the desander cleaner. Last week, several packages of Mud Cleaning System were shipped to Chinese sea port. The mud cleaning systems will be sailed to North America to service their mud cleaning projects. The project the client will do is that, they collect various kinds of waste mud and waste water from rigs or from construction field. The client transports the waste mud and waste water by vacuum trucks, and treat them together to reduce the waste material, and recover solids and waste for reuse. It is high standard mud cleaning system to suit for North America standard.

The features of the mud cleaning system are that, its design is very compact for small foot print. Several mud separation shale shakers and dewatering centrifuge unit are equipped in the system for better separation performance.

1) First separation is by double deck coarse shale shaker to remove the big size solids from the waste mud and waste water. The top of the shale shaker is covered by metal boards to avoid mud leakage during shale shaker vibration.

2) After the double deck coarse shale shaker, next separation is taken by a single deck high G force shale shaker. The same design as the double deck shale shaker, the top of the single deck shale shaker is covered by metal boards to avoid mud leakage during shale shaker vibration.

3) A package of dewatering centrifuge unit.

As there are still many fine solids particles inside the recovered water from shale shakers, a dewater unit is used in the system for chemical dosing. It is used together with a high speed big bowl decanter centrifuge for fine solids separation.
The mud cleaning systems can recovery as more sands from the waste water. Regarding the waste mud from hydraulic excavation drilling, the recovery liquid phase is usable mud for reuse. The separated sands can be used for construction material.

This is the last working week before Chinese Lunar New Year holiday, after that offices and workshops will be closed for a 2-week holiday. All GN workers are working day and night in order to ship as more as orders before the 2-week holiday.

Some dewatering centrifuge units are dispatched to sea port, they will be exported to a Southeast Asia client. The dewatering centrifuge units will be used for TBM mud treatment. TBM is short for Tunnel Boring Machine, it has a wide application in railway, hydropower, transportation, mining, municipal and other tunnel projects.

Drilling mud is used to lubricate drilling bits during Tunnel and Boring drilling activities. For environment protection, the drilling mud and waste water must be recycled and reused during and after the drilling activities. Besides normal mud desanding plant, dewatering centrifuge unit is also requested in some application to treat the waste water.

GN dewatering centrifuge unit consists of big bowl big ratio decanter centrifuge, and chemical dosing unit. The decanter centrifuge and chemical dosing system is combined as a full package unit to remove as more ultrafine solids as it can do. The decanter centrifuge and chemical dosing system are both allocated inside a fabricated container. The full package can be shipped as a shipper owner container during international shipment. And the containerized design can protect the centrifuge and chemical dosing system, which values much. And they are easy for shipment between different jobsites.

Decanter centrifuge itself is a Physical separation machine. It can only separate solids by particle sizes. It cannot remove ultrafine solids smaller than the cut point. By chemical dosing, the ultrafine solids can be flocculated, and reach the centrifuge cut point for solids removal.

The sand removal cyclone purification system is a two-stage separation device, and its function is to remove coarse particles from drilling mud. The desanding plant is mainly used in projects that can accept larger particle size solid drilling mud, such as Microtunnelling, piling, and so on.

The high standard self-contained mud recovery system developed by GN Solid Control is composed of four stage separations: shale shaker for coarse cuttings separation, 10 inch desander cone separation, 4 inch desilter cone separation, and decanter centrifuge for ultra-fine solid separation. The mud tank of the self-contained mud recovery system has a bigger storage volume to store the purified drilling mud. At the same time, it also has more tank surface space to arrange more separation equipment. Comparing with the mud recycling for oil industry, the unit for non oil drilling is more compact and less equipment needed.

  • Trenchless/No Dig HDD project – The mud recycling system used in this type drilling is matching with a No dig rig. In some project for long distance pipeline and cables laying underground, it is inconvenient to dig an open groove on the ground as that will interrupt the normal traffic. The trenchless is an ideal choice. The mud recycling system for this project is always consisting of 3 stages separation as shale shaker unit, de-sanding and de-silting cyclone.
  • Piling is the main method to install the bridge supporting pillar. A de-sanding unit with a small tank would be enough to remove out the coarse solids from the drilling fluids. The de-sanding unit is a composition of de-sander cyclone and shaker unit that can separate out the solids with size of 40-70 microns. Piling does not request very clean mud; less equipment involved makes the recycling unit for piling is very compact.
  • GN also can manufacture the mud recycling system for tunneling project. For micron tunneling, GN has model available with capacity of 120m3/h, 240m3/h and 500m3/h. For large flow rate request, GN has the mud plant GNMS -3600M with treating capacity of 3600m3/H.

2) Pre-screening of the returned mud using GNZS703E Shale Shaker for the GN500 GPM mud recycling system for Saudi Arabia HDD rig.

This shaker can handle a throughput of more than 528 USgpm and is designed to remove particles down to 250 microns(60mesh) @ 7G force linear motion GNZS703E Shale Shaker with big screen area (2.63 ㎡)

3) Secondary and third cleaning of the returned mud using a GNZJ703E (10″×1 + 4″ × 8) Mud Cleaner.

Major fluids with particle size less then 50microns goes to 2# De-sander compartment. This is the 2nd phase solids control of the GN500 GPM mud recycling system for Saudi Arabia HDD rig.

2# GNSB5×4A-13J Centrifugal pump suck mud from 2# desander compartment and feed to 4″x8 desilter cones. Where the particles larger then 16microns are separated out by centrifugal force from desilter cone nipple, and get down to GNZJ703E mud cleaner bottom shaker with a finer screen, which again produces a virtually dry product. Major fluids with particle size less than 16 microns goes to 3# Mixing compartment. This is the 3rd phase solids control of the GN500 GPM mud recycling system for Saudi Arabia HDD rig.

4) Integral mixing system using GNSLS35A-300 Jet Mud mixer for GN500 GPM mud recycling system for Saudi Arabia HDD rig.

This GN500 GPM mud recycling system for Saudi Arabia HDD rig allows fresh mud to be prepared very rapidly from bentonite powder. One of the 2 pumps on tank end is dedicated to this function allowing continuous mixing or recirculation as required.

5) Integral charge pumps to supply clean mud back to the drilling rig.

The mixing pump above is a dual function pump, on mixing pump outlet with a T pipe can be controlled by a valve to provide a continuous supply of clean mud from 3# mixing compartment under pressure to the high pressure mud pump, avoiding problems of starvation and cavitations which can rapidly cause damage.

Vortex mud hopper is an important part of drilling mud mixing system. It is used to mix new qualified mud for drilling rigs. The drilling mud vortex hopper usually used together with a centrifugal mixing pump or shear pump to realize the function.
